Calling Chess Players: 1st International Day of Sport for Development and Peace April 6
Chess Blog for Daily Chess News and Trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2014
Hello everyone,

Launched by the UN at the initiative of the International Olympic Committee, the first ever ‘International Day of Sport for Development and Peace’ will take place on 6 April 2014. To mark this historic day, Peace and Sport is calling on people across the globe to take part by launching a dedicated platform - www.april6.org - that will bring together and promote all the initiatives being carried out worldwide to celebrate this event.
The general public, teachers, associations, sports clubs and federations and NGOs are all invited to join this major celebration of sport for peace by organizing or participating in a symbolic action or event on 6 April 2014 and registering it on the website www.april6.org.
Joлl Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport:
“By establishing 6 April as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, the UN and IOC are paying tribute to the unique role of sport in our society and honouring its constructive and positive values. Throughout the year, a tremendous amount of work is carried out by stakeholders on the ground – often in difficult conditions. This day serves as a way to recognize and honour their achievements. We created www.april6.org to provide these different actors with a platform that could bring them together and present their actions to the general public. Sports champions will also be key to this celebration. As role models, they have the power to encourage large numbers of people to take part. 6 April must make its mark as a major event for peace-building through sport, which is one of the cornerstones of our movement.”
A number of events have already been announced worldwide on www.april6.org.
As you know Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk is a champion for Peace and Sport. You can read all posts by the 12th Women's World Chess Champion on this post-collection link at chessqueen.com.

Chess Music Videos with Photos of Chess Queen Alexandra Kosteniuk
Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2013
Hi everyone,
A Russian fan contacted Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk on Twitter (@chessqueen) recently to tell her about two music videos with slideshows of some of her photos. The first song is truly a chess song, called “e2-e4″ by the Russian group “Recital” of 1984 (the year the 12th Women's World Chess Champion was born) and with chess lyrics, the singer is Alexander Kalyanov. The second is by the group VIA, music by Viacheslav Dobrynin, and singer Alexei Kondakov. Both videos are posted at GM Kosteniuk's personal blog ChessQueen.com.

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2013
Hi everyone,

One of the greatest advantages of being a chess professional is to be able to travel across the world and visit places one might not during a regular holiday.
Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk is as passionate about her travel plans as her chess. She's finally decided to share her unique and special travelling experiences with her fans and has accepted an offer from the Russian web-site – TravelTipz.ru to write regular reviews about the hotels where she stays.
"I stay, the restaurants which I discover and different activities I take part in during my trips. I will share my reviews on my site, Twitter and Facebook. My first review is about the huge hotel Gaylord Opryland in Nashville, coming up soon! I hope you will like it and it may be useful to you!"
"Flying from one country to another, I make at least 10 trans-Atlantic flights a year. Most of my trips are associated with chess tournaments and in recent times I have noticed that the hotels, replaced one by one, pass by me as a string of identical images. That is why I am so glad to accept the proposal by traveltipz.ru to talk about my trips. I am sure now I will be more careful to consider those hotels where I stay, and then to share the observations on the pages of this site. Map of my travels usually reflects the chess events' calendar and this calendar does not always coincide with the usual tourist routes. But, nevertheless, I can assure you that the world through the eyes of a chess traveller is not just black and white, but a collage of striking and unusual experiences."

US Chess Championship 2013: GoddessChess Fighting Chess Award goes to Anna Zatonskih
Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2013
Hi everyone,
The GoddessChess Fighting Chess Award 2013 goes to four-time US Chess Champion Anna Zatonskih for her great fighting spirit at the US Women's Chess Championship 2013. The 12th Women's World Chess Champion, Chess Queen™ Alexandra Kosteniuk, was the judge for the award and decided to give the award to Anna Zatonskih. Goddesschess has sponsored a special prize at the U.S. Women's Chess Championship since 2007, except for 2012.

As you know, Irina Krush has won the US Women's Chess Championship 2013 this Sunday. (Read the full Chess Blog post.) Zatonskih lost Round 3 to Irina Krush, but came back to continue fighting and winning games. In the end she stood second - behind the eventual champion - by only 1/2 point. It is indeed the mark of a true champion to come back after a loss and win game after game to get to the second spot in the standings. She never gave up and fought hard even when it required pretty long games against determined opponents. Here are the US Women's Chess Championship 2013 Final Standings:
Interestingly, either Krush or Zatonskih have been the clear favorite to win the US Women's Chess Champion title each of the past five years! Outside of chess, Anna has a variety of interests from bicycling to ping pong to scuba diving. She is coached by her husband, German Grandmaster Daniel Friedman.
