2nd Stein am Rhein Open Chess from 28th Feb in Switzerland

Hello everyone,

Some chess tournament announcements via FIDE: The 2nd Stein am Rhein Open Chess Tournament will take place from 28th February to 2nd March at Hotel Grenzstein, Öhningerstr. 73, 8260 Stein am Rhein, in Switzerland.

The 2nd Stein am Rhein Open will be played in 5 rounds, and held in one of the most beautiful regions Europe’s during the wonderful winter season. The tournament is registered with FIDE-ELO/SUI/GER/AUT for the international and national ratings.

Top prizes are CHF 800, 600, 400, 300.

We have some great chess news to share. For the first time in Switzerland’s 113-year chess history, a woman has been able to win both the women’s and men’s national chess titles. Third Chess Grand Prix in Zug, Switzerland from April 17

Hi everyone, 


FIDE and Renova Group of Companies have announced the third leg of the Chess Grand Prix series will take place from April 17 to May 1 in Zug, Switzerland. Fide has announced that they are finalising negotiations with the hotel and would inform all participants of the hotel arrangements and any extra charges for accompanying persons in the next two days. Zug is located around 25 kilometers from Zurich Airport and the best connection is via train.

FIDE is currently also working on a replacement organiser for the fourth leg and more information will be available shortly. The dates of the fourth leg will also remain the same as scheduled in the calendar.

Support Chess Museum in Switzerland

Hi everyone,

Do you know there is a very special chess museum in Kriens, Switzerland: Schachmuseum.


This chess museum is a fabulous treasuretrove house spread across more than 420 square metres with 900 chess sets and more than 13,000 exhibits of chess figures, books, stamps, chess computers, arts and much more presented. Also included on the premises is a small cinema to watch chess scenes from more n 1,600 movies.
From January 25 till February 15, visitors can view the special exposition 'Chess Stamps' with more then 1,300 stamps.

The museum is looking for donors to help maintain the fantastic chess collection and premises. Chess enthusiasts could now help ensure that the museum survives.

As a donor of the museum, you receive:
- Free entry in the Museum
- Quarterly museum newspaper with news and presentation of new chess sets
- Mention on the donor table in the museum and in the museum guide
