How often does a GM win seven consecutive rounds in a chess tournament?

GM Sandro Mareco
Hello Everyone,

This should be a record of sorts: A Grandmaster winning the first seven rounds straight in a strong-enough tournament! (Are you reminded of a certain Mr. Carlsen and Ms. Dzagnidze?)

GM Sandro Mareco did so at the 3rd Open 'Simón Bolivar Libertador' that was held from June 24 to July 4 at the Club Argentino de Ajedrez in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The 9-round Swiss tournament with 120 participants featured several grandmasters.

Mareco drew only the eight round and then again won the ninth round to finish a clear first at least 2 points ahead of GM Diego Flores, GM Andres Rodriguez, IM Horacio Saldano, IM Federico Perez Ponsa, GM Sergio Slipak.

You can find more details and photographs at the official tournament website.
