Vladimir Kramnik Chess School in Russia Soon!
Hello chess blog friends, a chess school named after former world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik will start in Russia in about six months. Vladimir Kramnik was quoted by the Russian Chess Federation website:
"This is a very ambitious project. I speak again with the governor of the Krasnodar Territory, Alexander Tkachev. Done in school are children from all over the region, who want to learn to play chess, especially - professionally. There are plans to open six branches. In general, the structure has been created, but, of course, there is still a lot of organizational work."
The former World Chess Champion said the chess school is likely to be functional in about six months. The former world champion mentioned that the school would be possible by support and collective effort of a strong and committed team which was already working hard. Kramnik also said, not just chess coaches from the region, but those from outside would also be invited as guest lecturers at the chess school.
So, do we have more Russian world champions coming now soon from the Krasnodar region? Best wishes to GM Vladimir Kramnik with his chess school project.

Big Chess Comeback in UK Schools
Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012Hi everyone,
This week, both the Daily Mail and the Independent have carried articles on how chess is making a dramatic comeback in British primary schools. Teachers have come to see it as a major stimulant for improving pupils’ concentration with academics believing it can also be used to improve maths skills.
A total of 175 schools – including those serving deprived areas – have reintroduced the game to the curriculum in the past two years. The charity behind its revival, Chess in Schools and Communities (CSC), is optimistic that the take-up will spread to 1,000 state schools in three years.
As 10-year-old Olivia Kenwright took a break from playing the game during a timetabled lesson, she agreed she was pretty sure it was helping her brain. “It’s really good for helping out with other subjects,” she said.
Olivia is a pupil at Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School in Kensington, in the heart of inner-city Liverpool – one of the 175 schools to start playing the game again. Davidson John, another 10-year-old who was a keen footballer but now prefers the board game, agreed with her, saying, “It can help you with sorting out problems.”

Another school encourages chess
Kepnock State High School chess club members pit their brains and strategy against each other using the school’s new giant chess set.
Hi Everybody,
It's always nice to know when a school - no matter how small - introduces chess. Therefore, it was great to read this news tucked away on a website. And, we thought it would be nice to share it.
Kepnock State High School, USA, has created a new outdoor recreation area with a giant chess set. Wow.
Principal Jenny Maier said it was great to revamp the unused area into a refurbished storage area for the chess pieces and other outdoor equipment.
“Chess is one of those games that's been around for years but continues to enjoy a strong following by people of all ages and walks of life,” she said.
She said the valued school addition would also hold life skills for students.
“We live in a fast-moving world where we have a propensity to act quickly, sometimes without giving sufficient thought to the potential consequences of an action,” she said.
“Chess is a game of strategy that challenges players to think deeply and carefully before making a move.
“The parallel with real life is clear.”
She said the outdoor area was a fun way for students to develop their thinking skills.
“Since lunch time games began a few weeks ago, students and staff have shown keen interest; attendance at chess club has grown steadily,” she said.
If your school is doing something special for chess do share it with us.
