GM Aleksej Aleksandrov wins 1st Minsk Chess Open 2014
Hello chess blog friends, chess-news.ru reports that GM Aleksej Aleksandrov has won the first Minsk Chess Open. He scored a cool 7.5 in 9 rounds for a clear first ahead of five other players 1/2 a point behind. The second place was shared by Lintchevski of Russia, Podolchenko and Stupak of Belarus, Ukrainian Nosenko and FIM Trifonov. The legendary Viktor Kupreichik finished 12th with six points.
You cannot speak about chess in Belarus without mentioning Kupreichik. Viktor Davidovich Kupreichik (born 3 July 1949) at the beginning of his career, won individual gold medal at Ybbs 1968 (the 15th World Student Team Chess Championship). He was twice the winner of the Belarusian Chess Championship in 1972 and 2003. He also placed first at Wijk aan Zee (Masters' tournament) 1977, Kirovakan 1978 (jointly), Reykjavik 1980, Plovdiv 1980, Medina del Campo 1980, and Hastings International Chess Congress in 1981/82.

Delhi Chess Open: GM Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus Takes Clear First

Grandmaster Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus has won the Delhi Chess Open also known as the Parsvnath Chess International Open. He sealed a clear first with a final-round draw with Grandmaster Henrik Teske of Germany who was third. Aleksandrov finished with eight points out of a possible ten and finished clear first ahead of Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan who finished second with best tiebreak score on 7.5 points. It turned out to be a three-way tie for the second spot and Teske finished third while Indian Grandmaster Vaibhav Suri ended fourth.
Marat Dzhumaev defeated P Magesh Chandran while Vaibhav Suri ended the party of K Rathnakaran who had made a Grandmaster norm after winning the penultimate round.
M R Lalith Babu, Lu Shanglei of China and M Shyam Sundar finished in a tie for the fifth spot winning their final round games with Jahongir Vakhidov of Uzbekistan, Akshayraj Kore and Kiril Kuderinov of Kazakhstan respectively.

Grandmaster Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus has taken sole lead after three rounds at the The Delhi Chess Open with a super victory over International Master K Rathnakaran in the third round. The Belarus Grandmaster has perfect score.

There are 16 players in second place at half-point behind. These include Grandmasters Marat Dzhumaev of Uzbekistan, Lu Shanglei of China, Raset Ziatdinov of United States, Niaz Murshed of Bangladesh and Indian Grandmasters M R Lalith Babu, Magesh Panchanathan and Sahaj Grover.
Top seed Abhijeet Gupta meanwhile was held to a second draw in the tournament. The beneficiary was Ram S Krishna who had to defend a slightly worse endgame for a long time. Earlier it was a Catalan opening by Gupta that gave him a slight advantage which was not enough for a victory in the end.P Magesh Chandran caught Himanshu Sharma unawares in the opening itself and got a clear better position sooner than he had expected. “It was quite easy once I got better prospects, Chandran said after the game.

Delhi International Chess Begins with Abhijeet Gupta as Top Seed

Grandmaster and former World Junior Chess Champion Abhijeet Gupta starts as the top seed and hot favorite in the premier event of Delhi International Chess Festival that gets underway from Saturday. The premier event has just over 100 participants which makes it one of the strongest tournaments with participation of over 50 titled players.
The premier section will see Grandmaster Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus in action as the second seed and Andrey Deviatkin of Russia, Czebe Attila of Hungary, Raset Ziatdinov of United States, Henrik Teske of Germany, Marat Dzhumaev and Dmitry Kayumov of Uzbekistan will make the tournament extremely competitive.
“This has been done to make the tournament norm-friendly for Indian participants”, said Mr. B S Chauhan, Organising secretary and also secretary All India Chess Federation.
The premier event will see some of the best players from India participating for a total prize purse of Rs. 1. 25 Million. After Abhijeet Gupta, the presence of Abhijeet Kunte, B Adhiban, P Magesh Chandran and Commonwealth champion M R Lalith Babu will be seen in action spread over ten rounds.
The ‘B’ section, for players rated below 2200 rating, will also start simultaneously and it has a prize pool of Rs. 3 Lacs while the section ‘C’, reserved for players rated below 1900 ELO rating will start on the 9th of January.

GM Ziaur Rahman Wins Nagpur Chess Open 2012

Bangladesh Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman has won the Nagpur Open Chess tournament with a last round draw with IM Ankit Rajpara. Both Rahman and GM Aleksej Aleksandrov (who registered a hard-fought win over top Indian GM Lalith Babu) tied for the top score, but Rahman won on the Buchholz tie-break.
Ziaur, who had an impressive second-place finish in the Chennai open chess tournament in 2010. Top seed Aleksandrov played a tough game to beat Babu in 76 moves. Martyn Kravtsiv, the second seeded GM from Ukraine, agreed to a quick draw with Bengal's Diptayan Ghosh in a Catalan opening game on the third table. The 15-move draw helped Martyn finish third with 8.5 points while 17-year-old Vidit Gujrathi excelled with a fourth place finish.

Odisha International GM Open Chess Tournament in May

The 4th Odisha International GM Open Chess Tournament is scheduled to take place from May 29 to June 5 in Bhubaneswar, India. Last year's winner was GM Aleksej Aleksandrov.
System of Play: The tournament will be conducted as per FIDE Laws of Chess and FIDE Swiss System with 10 rounds. Subjected to FIDE approval, Accelerated pairing will be employed for first two rounds of the event to increase norm chances of players. More info here.

Top seed Aleksandrov wins Mayor's Chess Cup

The latest chess news from Mumbai is that top seed Aleksej Aleksandrov of Belarus has won the 4th Mayor's Cup International Chess Tournament. He went into the last round with a full-point lead and a quick draw with India's Deep Sengupta in the 11th and final round on Saturday gave him the top prize.

GM Martyn Kravtsiv of Ukraine, seeded second, also needed just a draw for a clear second and he got that by beating Ziaur Rehman of Bangladesh in just 28 moves.
