Here is a quick update of tournaments and chess news snippets.


  • Fide has just released their 2012-15 event calendar with a host of world championships and other championships for various regions in all categories ranging from amateurs, seniors, open, women's, etc. Check out the list here

  • The Chess Association of "Azerbaijan-Sharghi" province on behalf of the Islamic Republic of Iran Chess Federation is inviting players to the 20th Fajr International Chess Open Tournament will be held in Tabriz, northwest of Iran, from January 11 to 20, 2012 with a total of $30,000 in cash prizes.   • The World Youth Chess Championship goes to South America. for the first time and would be held in the natural hot water resort of Caldas Novas, State of Goiás, Brazil from 17 to 27 of November. Here is the official website

  • All set for the women's world chess championship (Nov 13-30 in Tirana, Albania: Hou Yifan vs Koneru Humpy)? Here is the official website that is all up and running!

  • Alexandr Fier (23) won the 2nd Latin American Chess Cup. The Brazilian Grandmaster edged out Diego Flores on tiebreak after both finished at 7.5/9. The tournament, held in Uruguay, was one of the most important of the continent. Find a nice report at www.chessvibes.com
