Hello everyone,

The latest chess news from Fide is that World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand of India has signed a contract to defend his world chess title in Moscow next year against Israeli Grandmaster Boris Gelfand. The contract was signed on Saturday after the conclusion of the Sixth Tal Chess Memorial 2011 on Friday.
The World Chess Championship 2012 match will be held from May 10-May 31 at the Tretyakovsky State Gallery, one of Russia’s finest art museums.

Two to tango: Gelfand and Anand

Anand and Gelfand signed the contract on Saturday along with Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the president of the world chess federation, FIDE. Presidential adviser Arkady Dvorkovich also signed. Anand last successfully defended his title in 2010 against Bulgarian challenger Veselin Topalov. Gelfand, who was born in Belarus, won the right to challenge the Indian world champion after winning the 2011 Candidates Tournament.

Meanwhile, Fide has also opened the bidding procedure for the FIDE Candidates Tournament 2012 which will determine the challenger for the World Championship Match in 2013.

"I have an excellent opponent. I expect the match to be a very exciting one. I think that Moscow chess society deserves to have such the tournament", - added the current World Champion.

Boris Gelfand on his part noted: "It is a great honour to me to sign the contract. It is good that the match will be held in such a wonderful place. I would like to thank all those people who made it possible to organize the event".
