Fide Chess Ratings: Magnus Carlsen is No. 1

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hello everyone,

As expected, GM Magnus Carlsen is back to being No. 1 in the world according to the Fide rating list released for the quarter beginning July 1, 2011. Magnus´ magnificent performance at the Kings’ Tournament in Romania has surely contributed to this.

In the women’s list, neither Judit Polgar nor Humpy Koneru played rated games. Hou Yifan is still third, despite dropping 37 rating points in two months. Viktorija Cmilyte is back in the top 10, now at 9th place.

Here are the top-20 in each section according to the latest list. You can see the complete chess rankings at www.fide.com.

FIDE has released a correction to the latest official chess rating list, issued on 1 July, this time including the games played in the match between Hikaru Nakamura and Ruslan Ponomariov in May. As a result, Nakamura rises from #9 to #6, and Ponomariov falls from #7 to #10.
