Hi Everybody,
This is the story of a husband and wife who love collecting chess sets!
In the fall of 1977, George Dean, a Detroit doctor and chess set collector, received a call from a man with a thick Russian accent offering to sell a set made by the legendary jeweler Peter Carl Fabergé. Dr. Dean knew that Fabergé had made a set in 1905, but the one offered for sale was supposedly made in 1915!
The story of the acquisition of the Fabergé sets is the riveting prologue of a hard-cover art book published this month by Abrams. “Chess Masterpieces: One Thousand Years of Extraordinary Chess Sets” is written by Dr. Dean along with Maxine Brady.
Enjoy.
