Chess News and Chess Trivia Blog (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2010

Hello Everyone,

Chess in itself is a fascination complex module of gameplaying that has extended to be defined as an art and science. Within this module, along with the opening and middlegame, the endgame has developed as a genre in itself. The Russian school of chess thought has long been based on the importance of endgame studies.

Now, the world's largest collection of endgame studies is here. It includes 76,132 studies. Experts say that approximately 90,000 were ever composed.

Saturday October 2nd at the Max Euwe Centrum in Amsterdam the first copies of Harold van der Heijden’s Endgame Study Database IV were officially presented to Yochanan Afek and Jan Timman.

The fourth edition of Harold van der Heijden’s Endgame Study Database has more than eight thousand extra studies compared to the previous edition from 2005. Besides, the solutions of tens of thousands of studies have been corrected or updated. It is by far the most comprehensive collection of endgame studies available.
