IM Cristina-Adela Foisor wins 14th International Chess Festival Mediterranean Flower in Rijeka

The latest chess tournament news via FIDE is that Romanian women's national champion IM Cristina-Adela Foisor has won the 14th International Chess Festival Mediterranean Flower that was held from March 2-8 March at the Chess Club Rijeka in Rijeka, Croatia. The 10-players round robin event is organized by the Chess Club Draga.

Romanian champion IM Cristina-Adela Foisor convincingly won the competition with 8,0 points, leaving the Bulgarian Grandmasters Iva Videnova and Adriana Nikolova a full point behind.

Arad Chess Open from Aug 3 in Romania

Vados Chess Club Arad is organising the 6th Arad Chess Open from August 3-9, 2013 at the Concert Hall of the Cultural Palace Arad. There will be also U16, U10 and U8 years old tournaments (born after 01.01.1997, 01.01.2003, 01.01.2005) between July 31st and August 3rd 2013.

It is a nine-round open Swiss tournament providing opportunities to qualify for international titles and the FIDE ELO List. The U16 open will be 7 rounds FIDE rated event and U10 and U8 children tournaments (9 rounds) will be valid only for Romanian ratings. The Romanian players taking part in this tournament must be legitimate and have all taxes paid to the Romanian Chess Federation. 
The main tournament - 90/40 moves + 15 minutes for the rest of the game + 30 seconds/move from move 1
U16 – 90 minutes/game/player.
U10, U8 – 61 minutes/game/player.

Byes - Players may take a ½ pt bye in maximum 2 rounds but only in the first seven rounds. The bye request must be announced to the arbiters before the beginning of the previous round in which the player will not play. Entry fee amounts to 40 euro. GM, WGM, IM, WIM don’t have to pay entry fee. More information on the official website.

World Amateur Chess 2013 Begins in Romania with Record Participation

The World Amateur Chess Championship 2013 has registered record participation. The Romanian Government, the Ministry of Youth and Sport, City Hall of Iasi, Romanian Chess Federation, Iasi County Council and Iasi County Chess Association are organising the 10-day event in Iasi, Romania with 232 players from 38 countries competing for total prizes of 10,000 euros. 

The sponsors of this edition and those who are supporting this chess event are SC Cotnari SA, SC TOTALGAZ SA, Rotary Club Iasi, Antibiotice Iasi, Aqua Carpathica, PALAS, Premium Software, Ness, Anlu and Orange Romania.

The Amateur World Chess Champion will receive the title of FIDE master and 2200 elo rating. The Amateur World Women's Chess Champion will receive the title of FIDE Master and 2050 elo rating. Second place in open, silver medal winner will receive 2100 elo rating and 2050 elo rating bronze medal winner.

Asian Junior Chess in Uzbekistan and World School Chess in Romania

Fide has announced the schedules and venue of the Asian Junior Championships 2012 and the World Schools Chess 2012. The National Chess Federation of Uzbekistan will host the first event for chess players under the age of 20 from 29th May (arrival) to 8th June (departure) 2012 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Also, Romanian Chess Federation, the City Hall of Iasi, FIDE and the International School Chess Union will host the World School Individual Chess Championship 2012 (open and girls, under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 years old) organized in Iasi, Romania, from 27th April (Arrival) to 7th of May (Departure) 2012.
