28th Pula Chess Open begins in Croatia June 7

Hello everyone, some chess tournament announcements via FIDE: We have the 28th Pula Chess Open coming up in Croatia from June 7 to 14. You can find more details on the official website.



The total prize money is worth 8.750 EUR net (in Croatian kunas) with the first place being worth 1. prize 1.000 EUR. Special awards will also be given for top three 
For best IM (International master): 250, 150, 100 EUR
For best FM (FIDE master): 160, 120, 80 EUR
For ladies: 250, 200, 150, 100, 80 EUR
For players with ELO 2201-2400: 200, 1600, 120, 80 EUR
For players with ELO 2001-2200: 160, 120, 100, 80 EUR
For players with ELO 1801-2000: 120, 100, 80, 50 EUR
For players with ELO 1600-1800: 100, 80, 60, 50 EUR
For players without ELO: 90, 70, 50, 40 EUR
For veterans over 60: 100, 80, 60, 40 EUR
For under 18: 80, 60, 50, 30 EUR
Awards are not cumulative!!!

ENTRY FEE: 50 €.
Players younger then 18 year: 25 €,
International masters and Grandmasters do not pay entry fee.

IM Cristina-Adela Foisor wins 14th International Chess Festival Mediterranean Flower in Rijeka

The latest chess tournament news via FIDE is that Romanian women's national champion IM Cristina-Adela Foisor has won the 14th International Chess Festival Mediterranean Flower that was held from March 2-8 March at the Chess Club Rijeka in Rijeka, Croatia. The 10-players round robin event is organized by the Chess Club Draga.

Romanian champion IM Cristina-Adela Foisor convincingly won the competition with 8,0 points, leaving the Bulgarian Grandmasters Iva Videnova and Adriana Nikolova a full point behind.

Split Chess Open 2013 begins in Croatia

The 3rd International Tournament Split Chess Open 2013 is set to take place from 10th to 18th August in Hotel Zagreb in Split, Croatia. The 9-round Swiss event is organized by the Chess Club “Brda” and City of Split. This year the prize fund is increased to 10,000 EUR. Top prizes are: 2000, 1200, 700, 500, 400, 300 EUR.

The 1st Split Open in 2011 had 120 participants. GM Marin Bosiočić was the convincing winner with 8/9 points. The 2nd Split Open in 2012 had 203 participants. Grandmasters Bojan Kurajica and Ante Saric shared the first place with 7,5/9 points each.

World Senior Chess 2013 in Opatija, Croatia

FIDE has decided to award the 23rd FIDE World Seniors Chess Championship in 2013 to Opatija, Croatia. The previous World Senior Chess Championships were played in Opatija, Croatia, from November 14, 2011. The Championships are organised by the Chess club “Rijeka” in agreement with Croatian Chess Federation. 
 
The championship will be based on 11 rounds of Swiss system in accordance with the FIDE Tournament Rules and FIDE Rules of Chess. Male participants should be at least 60 years old and women participants should be at least 50 years old. The playing time will be 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move one. The Article 6.6. of the Rules of Chess will be applied – each player being late at the beginning of his match will loose the game. The women play their own tournament to determine the Women World Senior Champion.

Sinisa Saric wins 17th Bosnjaci Chess Open 2012

The latest tournament chess news is that IM Sinisa Saric has won the 17th Bosnjaci Chess Open 2012 held from January 3-9 in Croatia. A total of 116 players, including four grandmasters, took part in the event. Sinisa Saric from Novi Sad beat top seed GM Sasa Martinovic to take the top prize with a clear first.You can check the tournament website for more info.
