15-year-old Chess Prodigy Aims for Polish National Title

The Polish Chess Championships are taking place in Warsaw from March 25 to April 2, with 15-year-old Grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda one of the favourites.

Jan-Krzysztof Duda from Krakow, southern Poland, achieved his GM title in 2013 at the age of 15 years and 21 days, becoming the second youngest Grandmaster in the world after China's Wei Yi and is being tipped as a potential challenger for the world title in the future.
Duda has got off to a great start at the championships, winning two and drawing the third of his marches so far.
Also taking part in the men's competition is Radoslaw Wojtaszek, who was a second to Viswanathan Anand when he lost his world championship crown to Magnus Carlsen last November.
The winners of the men's and women's titles will represent Poland at this year's Chess Olympiad in Norway. (The News)

Indian newspapers have reported that World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand's new team member is Indian Grandmaster Sandipan Chanda. Chanda belongs to the same city as another of Anand's seconds - Kolkata. Grandmaster Surya Shekhar Ganguly, from Kolkata, continues in Anand's team. Anand takes on World No. 1 Carlsen for the world championship in November. (Photo: Sandipan Chanda - new addition to Viswanathan Anand's team.)
Chanda, 30, is the second Indian player to be hired by the 42-year-old Anand. Ganguly, a five-time national champion, Pieter Heine Nielsen of Denmark, former world champion in the knock-out format, Rustam Kasimdzhanov of Uzbekistan and Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek have been core members of Team Anand in the last three World Championships.
Ganguly and Wojtaszek will continue to assist the world No. 7. Chanda had accompanied Anand during a recent GM tournament in Norway.

Here is some top tournament chess news via www.chesssdom.com. In the winter of 2011, when chess is the only thing that truly keeps you warm, the European Blitz Chess Championship 2011, was organised under the auspices of Bronisław Komorowski – the President of the Republic of Poland and the European Parliament.

The event took place on December 16 in Warsaw, Poland. The Championship was organized by the Warsaw Foundation for Chess Development in cooperation with the Polish Chess Federation, under the auspices of the European Chess Union. The tournament was played over 13 double rounds of Swiss system with the time control of 3 minutes for a game for a player, with an increment of 2 seconds per move. 367 players competed.
Grandmasters Alexei Dreev, Radoslaw Wojtaszek and Hrant Melkumyan shared the first place with 20/26 points each. After the knock-out tiebreak with the time control of 4 minutes for white and 3 minutes for black for a game, with an increment of 1 second per move, Hrant Melkumyan took the gold medal, while Alexei Dreev earned the silver.
The total prize fund was 10,000 € – main prizes 7,650 € and special prizes 2,350 €. First place was 2000 € worth. The competitions continue with the European Rapid Chess Championship 2011.
