Lela Javakhishvili is Georgia Women's Chess Champion 2014

Hello everyone,
Third seed Lela Javakhishvili has won the 71st Georgia Women's Chess Championship held at the Palace of Chess, from February 18-March 1, in Tbilisi. She has won the title before in 2007 and 2001 as well.
Javakhishvili scored 9.5 points from 11 rounds without a loss and won the title ahead of Khurtsidze Nino (2456) and Khotenashvili Bela (2527) who took second and third places respectively.
The second and third places were decided only in the last round though Lela won the title with a round to spare a full 1.5 points ahead of the rest of the field. (Official website)

Congratulations to Koneru Humpy for winning Tashkent Chess Grand Prix

Humpy Koneru has won her second chess Grand Prix event - which means she has won both the events she has played in. Her fellow Indian Grandmaster, Harika Dronavalli, was cruising along in second place all along through the tournament, but lost her pace towards the end and could not make it to the top-three. Bela Khotenashvili shared second to third with Kateryna Lagno, but the Georgian had a better tie-break and was second. Zhao Xue outplayed Harika Dronavalli to take the fourth while the Indian was fifth. Photos of the last round by Maria Emelianova are available in the Photo Gallery.
The official closing ceremony of the 3rd stage of the Women's Grand Prix Series 2013-14 was held in the Gallery of Fine Art of Tashkent on 30th of September. The ceremony was attended by many honoured guests such as the FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the Chairperson of Fund Forum's Board of Trustees Gulnara Karimova, the Minister of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan Minhozhiddin Hozhimatov, the First Deputy Minister of Sports of Uzbekistan Zhasur Akramov, the Head of the Administration of Sports Rashid Talipov, the Director of Tashkent branch of REU after G.V. Plekhanov acad. K.Kh. Abdurakhmanov, the Head of the Administration of Olympic reserve Kamil Bayazitov, the Head of The State Committee for Communication, Informatization and Telecommunication Technologies of the Republic of Uzbekistan Hurshid Mirzahidov and other special guests.

Bela Khotenashvili Wins Foundation Neva Women's Chess Grand Prix in Geneva

Georgia's Bela Khotenashvili has won the Foundation Neva Women's Chess Grand Prix 2013 in Geneva. Her nearest rival Anna Muzychuk had to win the game in order to catch the leader but Slovenian player didn’t get anything out of the opening and drew against 12th Women's World Chess Champion Alexandra Kosteniuk.
“I’m very happy to win this tournament and consider this result as the best one in my career so far. I would like to thank Georgian chess federation, President of GCF Giya Giorgadze and our coach Davit Jojua for their help,” said Bela Khotenashvili at the final press conference.
Hou Yifan missed winning chances in the endgame and lost the game against Nana Dzagnidze. Tatiana Kosintseva had a very good position after the opening but was spending a lot of time and lost against Ju Wenjun. Viktorija Cmilyte outplayed Olga Girya. As a result, Nana Dzagnidze tied for the third place with Tatiana Kosintseva.
Congratulations to all the girls who gave us almost two weeks of great chess games and showcased how fighting spirit can make chess just so exciting. Some of the draws were amazing and left fans and spectators in awe. All around everyone shared the joy of great chess.
The awarding ceremony took place after the last game was finished and was attended by Under Secretary-General, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva, Mr. Tokayev, the founder of Neva Fondation Elena Timtchenko, FIDE President Kirsan Iljumzhinov, FIDE CEO Geoffrey Borg.

Here is the latest chess news update from the 69th Georgian Women Championship that was organised by the Georgian Chess Federation from April 28-May 9 in Anaklia, Zugdidi. Twelve players competed in the round robin tournament.
Top seeded IM Bela Khotenashvili convincingly won the title by collecting 8/11 points with a margin of a full point. The average elo of the players was 2354.
