Round 10 was possibly the dullest one of the Jermuk Women's Chess World Championship with five draws and just one game with a result. GM Pia Cramling beat WGM Baira Kovanova in the only decisive game of the round.

Nana Dzagnidze unstoppable at Jermuk Women's Chess Grand Prix 2010
 Comfortably ahead of the field: GM Nana Dzagnidze

Grandmaster Nana Dzagnidze is unstoppable at the Jermuk Grand Prix 2010. The Georgian player won the seventh round also beating former world champion Grandmaster Maia Chiburdanidze. Dzagnidze leads in the tournament with an impressive 6.5/7. She has taken her lead to a full 1.5 points now. The fact that Dzagnidze was playing Black didn't matter at all!
Chiburdanidze did everything to pile up an attack down the g-file but Dzagnidze never allowed that attack to materialize and got the full point with a passed pawn rolling down the c-file.
Meanwhile, Yifan drew her game while Kosintseva won hers. Kosintseva once again climbed to the second spot drawing level with Lilit Mkrtchian. Mkrtchian also drew her game with Danielian to remain in the second spot.

Dzagnidze leads, Mkrtchian in second spot at Jermuk Women's Chess Grand Prix 2010

Grandmaster Nana Dzagnidze is sailing strong and bright at the Jermuk Women's Chess Grand Prix-2010. In the sixth round she maintained her lead by beating Tatiana Kosintseva. Kosintseva was in second spot behind Dzagnidze in the fifth round.
Meanwhile, IM Lilit Mkrtchian beat GM Maia Chiburdanidze to jump to second spot behind Nana. In the other rounds WGM Shen Yang beat Fierro Baquero Martha L. Fierro is yet to score any points in the Grand Prix.
GM Xu Yuhua also beat WGM Kovanova Baira and GM Hou Yifan beat GM Pia Cramling. GM Antoaneta Stefanova also beat IM Elina Danielian making it an all-White-win day at the Grand Prix.

Dzagnidze maintains lead at Jermuk Women's Grand Prix Chess Tournament

There were only two draws during the fifth round at the Jermuk Women's Grand Prix Chess Tournament-2010 Both Nana Dzagnidze and Tatiana Kosintseva won their games to stay steady in the number 1 and 2 spots. Kosintseva beat the veteran Maia Chiburdanidze while Dzagnidze beat Fierro.
The Jermuk Grand Prix is also being held in celebration of the 00th anniversary of the famous chess composer Genrikh Kasparian.
Genrikh Kasparyan, born in Tbilisi, Armenia, is considered to have been one of the greatest composers of chess endgame studies. Kasparyan was also an active chess player, winning the Armenian championship ten times (from 1934 to 1956, including two ties with future World Champion Tigran Petrosian) and the Tiflis championship three times (1931, 1937, 1945).

Tatiana Kosintseva wins Nalchik Chess Grand Prix 2010
Hello everybody!
On May 8 the 3rd tournament of the women's FIDE Grand-Prix came to its end in Nalchik.
The winner of this tournament - Tatiana Kosintseva scored 9 out of 11 in this strong field and with this wonderful result took clear first place followed by Hou Yifan with 7,5 points and Nana Dzagnidze and Pia Cramling with 7 points. That was the first tournament for Tatiana in this Grand-Prix Series and I wish her all the best in the next tournaments which are scheduled to be in July, August and November 2010.

Tatiana Kosintseva leads Nalchik Chess Grand Prix
From April 25 to May 8, 2010 in Nalchik, the third tournament of the FIDE Women's Grand-Prix is taking place. After 5 rounds Tatiana Kosintseva is in the sole lead with 4.5 out of 5.

Photo Finish in Aeroflot Chess Open 2010
Hello everybody!
Every chess tournament, even the most exciting one has its end. And often only a photo finish or some kind of tie-breaks can name the winners of an event. The A1 Aeroflot chess tournament had an only winner - the vietnamese GM Le, Quang Liem, who finished in clear first place with 7 out of 9.
However, there was a tie between the best ladies players. Hou Yifan, Tatiana and Nadezhda Kosintseva all finished with 4 out of 9, which is a very respectful result in this strong tournament.
The full standings of the A1 tournament can be found here. Below is an example of the Hou Yifan win over the russian GM Stanislav Novikov. Hou Yifan is playing Black and it's her turn to move. White was doing OK until the last move where Novikov played 35. Bb2??, trying to exchange the strong dark-squared bishop on d4
Hou Yifan continued the game with 35. ... Re5! and White realised that there is no way to keep this bishop on b2 protected. The game continued for a few more moves 36.Qd3 Qd5+ 37.Kh3 Bxb2 38.Qc2 Ba3 39.f6+ Qe4 40.Qxe4+ and White resigned. Rxe4 41.Ra1 Bb4 42.f7 Re5 0-1
In the A2 tournament Evgenia Ovod and Ekaterina Kovalevskaya finished the tournament with 5 out of 9, the results can be seen here.
In the B tournament Gulnar Mammadova shared the first place overall with 7 out of 9. The full standings can be found here.
In the C tournament, Alexandra Nikolaeva took bronze overall with 7 out of 9. The full table is here.
Melia Salome continued her nice tournament stroke. After winning the Women's Georgian Championship and sharing the first place in the Moscow open, she now won another strong women's tournament in Romania. She took 6 points out of 9 and was followed by Maria Muzychuk with 5,5 and Corina Peptan with 5 points. The full table can be found here.
In 2 weeks the European Championships 2010 for men and women will start in Rijeka, Croatia. I'm sure we will witness for exciting chess over there. So stay tuned!
