Monika Socko leads Cotroceni Women's Chess Tournament in Bucharest

Hi everyone,

We told you about the International Women's Chess Tournament being held in Bucharest from March 2-11. Here are the updates. GM Monika Socko is leading the 10-player round robin chess tournament after six rounds despite a loss against WGM Valentina Gunina! She leads the field by half a point. Tuesday is the rest day when the players would be celebrating Women's Day.

Before you start worrying about what you would do once the Women's Chess Grand Prix ends today in Doha, let's tell you all die-hard women chess fans - nothing to worry!

A new closed chess event for women begins in Bucharest today. The interesting part is that it's a pretty strong tournament in itself. Consider this: The average rating at the ongoing sixth women's chess grand prix in Doha, Qatar is 2490.9 and the average of the women's tournament in Bucharest is 2454.8! Here are the lovely ladies to follow as you pan your computer screens to Europe
