Michael Adams score of 3 after Round 1 torturous game win over Fabiano Caruana could no go further as he meandered into a chokehold right after the opening itself. Soon the British Grandmaster was down material. He struggled on and could have pulled off an escape draw, but eventually blundered in the endgame while pawn down. .

Vladimir Kramnik's Petrosian came prepared against Hikaru Nakamura and was comfortably winning after the 25th move itself.

Meanwhile, Fabiano Caruana drew with former world chess champion Viswanathan Anand who was celebrating his birthday on December 11. Caruana has worked with Anand for the 2013 World Chess Championship in Chennai versus Magnus Carlsen.

Round 2 Scores: Giri, Kramnik 4, Adams 3, Anand, Nakamura, Caruana 1

Round 3 pairings: Nakamura-Anand, Adams-Kramnik, Caruana-Giri
