Bangladesh Chess News: National Championship Begins

Hi everyone, 

Here is some chess news from an emerging chess nation: Bangladesh. The Berger Paints 39th National Chess Championship-2013 began at the Media Center of the Bangladesh Olympic Association in Dhaka recently.

Fourteen chess players including four Grandmasters - reigning national chess champion Murshed Niaz, Rahman, Ziaur, Abdulla Al-Rakib and Hossain Enamul - two International Masters Minhazuddin Ahmed and Abu Sufian Shakil, five FIDE Masters Ahmed, Sk. Nasir, Islam Kh. Aminul, Chatterjee Debaraj, Hasan Mehdi and Mohammad Javed and three FIDE rated players Ahmed Shafiq, Md. Jamal Uddin and Mohammed Hafizul Islam Chapal are participating in the event.

All Grandmasters are directly participating in the national chess event and the 10 players qualified via the National ‘B’ Chess Tournament. The event is being held in all-play-all (round-Robin) system. Ghulam Mohammed Quader, Commerce Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and President of Bangladesh Chess Federation, and Syed Shahed Reza, Secretary General of Bangladesh Olympic Association, inaugurated the event.
