Hi everyone,

The first chess super tournament in
Norway! 07th to 18th of May

No matter where the World Chess Championship 2013 is going to be held, World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen and World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand are going to be meeting this May! They will be playing at the Norway Chess Festival 2013. If you wish to see this match between the two best chess players in the world next month, purchase your tickets here. Also playing would be six-time Russian Chess Champion Peter Svidler. He is replacing Vladimir Kramnik.

With an average of 2776, so far this tournament might be the strongest ever. Tal Memorial 2012 had an average of 2776.

The tournaments
A unique twist is being planned for the location of the super tournament by using a variety of historical locations. The Stavanger region wants to use the event as a means to promote the whole district. The option to repeat the tournament in the region is already being reviewed.

The tournament will include:

  • Super tournament with the majority of the top 10 ranked players
  • School tournament with hundreds of children
  • Celebrity tournament with a range of celebrities to show their chess skills
