Hi everyone,

The 2013 Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival was opened on 21 January by Steven Linares, Minister for Sport, Culture, Heritage & Youth, and the draw for first round colours made by Jessica Baldochino, Miss Gibraltar 2012. Tournament director GM Stuart Conquest presided over the ceremony.

The photo shows Stuart Conquest, James Humphreys, of the principal sponsor Tradewise, Brian Callaghan, of the Caleta Hotel, Jessica Baldochino and the Hon. Steven Linares. Many more photos here.

Moments later the 245 chess players from some 60 countries then made their opening moves in he tournament which is being held over the next 10 days. The top woman player this year is Anna

Muzychuk (Slovenia). There are 48 Grandmasters and 36 International Masters. 29 FIDE Masters and 4 women Grandmasters.

Live streaming with commentary is available every afternoon with commentator GM Simon Williams and GM Irina Krush via the official website of the chess festival. Once again the tournament boasts the latest technology installed by Gibtelecom a great supporter of the festival in its 11 year history.
