Magesh Panchanathan Wins Philadelphia Chess Open 2012

Hi everyone,

The latest tournament chess news is that GM Magesh Panchanathan of India has won the 6th Annual Philadelphia Chess Open 2012. The sixth edition of the event was held during the  Easter week from April 4-8, 2012, at the upscale, luxury Loews Philadelphia Hotel, rated Four Diamonds by AAA, 1200 Market Street, Philadelphia. The chess event had 8 sections: Open, Under 2200, Under 2000, Under 1800, Under 1600, Under 1400, Under 1200 and Under 1000.

GM Magesh Panchanathan of India finished first with 7/9 points which included a victory over defending champion GM Tamaz Gelashvili in the final round. The Open Chess Section was a 9 round Swiss tournament with GM and IM norm opportunities. This group was played over a 5-day schedule. The event had a $80,000 projected prize fund with $60,000 guaranteed.
