World Chess Championships (Rapid & Blitz) Inauguration in Astana Today

Hi everyone,

The blitz and rapid qualifiers have been selected for the World Chess Championships in Blitz and Rapid. The inauguration ceremony would take place today in Astana, Kazakhstan.

This is the first time that the World Chess Championships in Rapid and Blitz are to be held! The event will be held from 6 to 10 July.

The players are some of the best chess masters in the world including Magnus Carlsen, Boris Gelfand, Sergey Karjakin, Veselin Topalov, Vassily Ivanchuk, Teimour Radjabov, Alexander Grischuk and others. The qualifiers are (blitz) Dmitry Andreikin, Le Quang Liem, Nikolay Chadaev (rapid) Igor Kurnosov, Alexey Dreev and Vladislav Tkachiev.

Chief arbiter is Andrzej Filipowicz. He would be assisted by Sergey Yurovsky. The total prize fund is $400,000. You can watch all the games live from tomorrow at the official website: www.worldchess.kz.
