Women's world chess championship 2011 R5: Hou Yifan holds on to one-point lead over Koneru Humpy with another draw

Hou Yifan is steering her ship with calm control at the ongoing Women's World Chess Championship in Tirana, Albania. She is defending her title against challenger Koneru Humpy. The fifth game also ended in a draw on Sunday allowing Yifan to maintain her one point lead.

The 10-game series stands 3-2 in favour of Yifan, who had won the third game. The sixth game with Humpy having white will be played on Monday.
Humpy defended well after a well-analysed Ruy Lopez opening got simplified into an ending quickly. The queens got exchanged after 14 moves and both the players tried to test each other in a rooks and same-coloured bishop ending.

The women's world chess championship 2011 between Hou Yifan of China and Koneru Humpy of India is round the corner. FIDE Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos was in Albania inspecting the site for the FIDE Women's World Championship Match 2011 to be held in Tirana from 13th November to 30th November. There he met with Mr. Rezart Taçi, the new President of the Albanian Chess Federation and the personal sponsor of the FIDE Women's World Championship.
This is being done through his company, Taçi Oil International Trading and Supply Sh.a. Taçi Oil leads the domestic oil market and its trading arm operates 85 retail stations all over Albania.
Mr. Makropoulos said that he was very grateful to Mr. Taçi for sponsoring the FIDE Women's World Championship Match and that Mr. Taçi's elevation to be President of the Albanian Chess Federation would lead to the growth and development of chess in Albania, as well as to the Federation taking a more active role in FIDE. Here are the brief profiles of the two players:
 Hou Yifan (born February 27, 1994, in Xinghua, Taizhou, Jiangsu, China) is a Chinese chess prodigy. She is the reigning Women's World Chess Champion, the youngest ever to win the title, as well as the youngest ever female player to qualify for the title of Grandmaster. At the age of 12, she became the youngest ever player to participate at the FIDE Women's World Championship (Yekaterinburg 2006) and at the Chess Olympiad (Torino 2006). In June 2007, she became China's youngest ever National Women's Champion. She had reached the finals in 2008 where Chess Queen Alexandra Kosteniuk was crowned 12th women's world chess champion.
Humpy Koneru became the second female player ever, after Judit Polgár, to exceed the 2600 Elo mark. From 2002 through 2008, Humpy held the record as the youngest woman ever to become a grandmaster (not merely a Woman Grandmaster), which she achieved at the age of 15 years, 1 month, 27 days, beating Judit Polgár's previous mark by three months; however, this has since been surpassed by Hou Yifan. Humpy participated in the FIDE Women's Grand Prix 2009–2011 and finished in overall second position, in turn qualifying as challenger for Women's World Chess Championship 2011.

For all the fans of women's chess, we've got two events coming up - The Women's World Chess Championship 2011 and the Women's World Chess Team Championship 2011.
The world title match will be held in Tirana, Albania from November 13 (arrival) to November 30 (possible tie-breaks) 2011. The prize fund offered to the players is 200,000 euros. Hou-Humpy Women's World Chess Championship likely in Rostov region?

According to a news snippet by Russian website www.chess-news.ru, the Women's World Chess Championship 2011 might just be held in Rostov region Russia!
Quoting from an interview with the Rostov Chess Federation president Sergey Nesterov, the latter said that Fide has asked him to consider Rostov as a possible venue. Nesterov said they would be watching the playing conditions and other aspects of holding a high-profile chess tournament in Rostov during the Women's Chess Grand Prix coming up in August. He said the world championship would require a budget of 15-20 million which is quite expensive but he is trying. He confirmed that the Women's World Chess Championship was likely to be held sometime around the end of November.

Fide announces bidding, rules for Women's World Chess Championship 2011

Fide has announced the bidding procedure and regulations for the Women's World Championship Match 2011 to be held between current champion Hou Yifan (China) and challenger Humpy Koneru (India). The match is scheduled for 10 November to 5 December 2011 and the deadline for receiving bids is 31 May.

The match system would include 10 games. The time control for each game shall be: 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, 60 minutes for the next 20 moves and then 15 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting after move 61 has been made. If a player refuses to participate in the World Championship Match, she will be replaced as follows: The runner up finalist of the Women’s World Championship 2010 WGM Ruan Lufei replaces the Women’s world champion Hou Yifan and the next player in the overall standings of the Women’s Grand-Prix 2009-2011 replaces the challenger. In case any or both players refuse to participate when invited, or for any further replacements needed, the rating list of January 2011 will be used to determine their replacements. The Players shall be entitled to inspect the accommodation arranged for them at the Venue three days before the first game of the match and shall be entitled to make reasonable requests regarding such accommodation.
