World Youth Chess Championships 2012 – India and Russia with greatest number of medals

We have a comprehensive report on the World Youth Chess Championship 2012 via Chessdom. The World Youth Chess Championships 2012 were held in Maribor, Slovenia, on 7-19th November. This year around 158 young players participated in twelve age categories.
In the oldest group the top rated player of the whole event and last year World Junior U20 Champion, GM Dariusz Swiercz from Poland, took the gold medal in the U18 Open section. He left the talented Armenian GM Hovhannes Gabuzyan half a point behind, while GM Jorge Cori of Peru grabbed the bronze medal after edging the opposition on tie-break.
In the U18 Girls section the 2nd-seeded WGM Aleksandra Goryachkina convincingly won the gold with 9,5 points, a full point ahead of Lisa Schut of Netherlands. 12th seed Maria Severina of Russia won the bronze.
There is an interesting pattern in that the Russian girls dominated the older groups while the girls from India massively won the medals in younger categories. In the U16 Girls section none of the nine top rated players took the medal.
FM Nguyen Anh Khoi from Vietnam has been impressive in the U10 Open group where he took the first place with Fischer-like perfect score 11 out of 11.
Asadi Motahare from Iran has also been convincing in the U8 Girls section where she collected 10,5 points.
Nodirbek Abdusattorov from Uzbekistan justified the position of the top seed in the U8 Open group where he finished with 10 points. The complete list of all the medal winners is in the extended post.
