Vishy Anand wins London Chess Classic 2014 on Tiebreak
Hello chess blog friends, the London Chess Classic 2014 has concluded with former World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand winning the event on tiebreak. Vishy Anand won the 6th London Chess Classic on tie-break from Vladimir Kramnik and Anish Giri after defeating Mickey Adams with the black pieces in the final round on Sunday.
Final scores in tie-break order: 1 Anand 7, 2 Kramnik 7, 3 Giri 7, 4 Nakamura 6, 5 Adams 4, 6 Caruana 4.Vishy Anand has won the London Chess Classic Super-Six Tournament ahead of Vladimir Kramnik and Anish Giri on tiebreak.

London Chess Classic R2: Kramnik beats Nakamura, Giri beats Adams
Hello chess blog friends, Round 2 at the 4th London Chess Classic 2014 witnessed two decisive games of three! Former World Chess Champion Vladimir Kramnik demolished Hikaru Nakamura and Anish Giri beat overnight leader Michael Adams.

Michael Adams score of 3 after Round 1 torturous game win over Fabiano Caruana could no go further as he meandered into a chokehold right after the opening itself. Soon the British Grandmaster was down material. He struggled on and could have pulled off an escape draw, but eventually blundered in the endgame while pawn down. .
Vladimir Kramnik's Petrosian came prepared against Hikaru Nakamura and was comfortably winning after the 25th move itself.
Meanwhile, Fabiano Caruana drew with former world chess champion Viswanathan Anand who was celebrating his birthday on December 11. Caruana has worked with Anand for the 2013 World Chess Championship in Chennai versus Magnus Carlsen.

London Chess Classic R1: Michael Adams begins with Win over Fabiano Caruana
Hello chess blog friends, the main event of the London Chess Classic 2014 began with one win and two draws - Michael Adams beat Fabiano Caruana, Vlaimir Kramnik drew with Viswanathan Anand and Hikaru Nakamura also drew with Anish Giri. The scoring pattern is 3-1-0 so, Adams is already in the lead with three points.

The two draws were entertaining though predictable. However, the Adams-Caruana game had its share of spills and thrills. Adams goofed up in the opening, but Caruana returned the favour and gave Adams a winning edge. The game became level again and soon Caruana was losing which he eventually did despite Adams missing a clear win. Finally, Adams won the game with solid technique square and fair.
Players must make 40 moves in 1 hour 40 minutes, then all remaining moves in 50 minutes, with a 30 second increment throughout. 'Football' scoring will use used, with 3 points awarded for a win and 1 point for a draw. The Sofia-Corsica rules apply, so there will be no agreed draws without consent of the Chief Arbiter.

London Chess Classic 2014: Hikaru Nakamura wins Super RapidPlay
Hello chess blog friends, another chess event from the London Chess Classic 2014 - GM Hikaru Nakamura of the USA won the London Super Rapidplay Open with an outstanding score of 9½/10, having conceded just the one draw in the sixth round to Matthew Sadler.
Second on his own, a full point behind Nakamura on 8½, was Anish Giri of the Netherlands. Ten players shared third place on 8 points: Fabiano Caruana (Italy), Vishy Anand (India), Vladimir Kramnik (Russia), Nigel Short, Nick Pert and Simon Williams (all England), Alex Lenderman and Daniel Naroditsky (both USA), Eric Hansen (Canada), and Alon Greenfeld (Israel).Hikaru Nakamura, runaway winner of the Super Rapidplay Open with 9½/10, starts the 2014 London Chess Classic the way he left off in 2013.

GM Michael Adams wins London Chess Classic 2014 Elite Blitz
Hello chess blog friends, the London Classic Elite Blitz was held on the evening of 8 December 2014 in the auditorium of the Olympia Conference Centre, with all six elite entrants to the London Classic proper taking part in a double-cycle round-robin to decide the draw order for the main tournament.

The tournament (which was scored on the 3-1-0 basis) ended in a three-way tie for first between Mickey Adams (England), Hikaru Nakamura (USA) and Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) on 17/30, Anish Giri (Netherlands) on 16, Vishy Anand (India) 10 and Fabiano Caruana (Italy) 9.
Number of wins or black wins couldn't separate the leaders but Mickey Adams was placed first based on a better head-to-head result against his rivals. He was invited to choose his preferred draw number. He chose number 3 (note that numbers 1-3 secure an extra white). Hikaru Nakamura (who was second on tie-break) chose 2 and Vladimir Kramnik 1. Then Anish Giri opted for 5, Vishy Anand for 6 and Fabiano Caruana was left with 4.
