GM Sasikiran is India National Chess Champion 2013

Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran is the Indian National Chess Champion 2013. GM Sasikiran won the 51st Indian National Premier Chess Championship 2013 on Monday.
Sasikiran played some very strong chess to beat extremely tough competition over the last two weeks. The last round had two vital games to be played that would effect the final outcome. GM Adhiban went into the last round trailing the leader by half point and convincingly beat MS Thejkumar. This was even as Sasi battled Shyam Nikhil. If Sasi were to draw, he would have to give the title to Adhiban on tiebreak. But, Sasi held on strong and beat Nikhil to win the tournament with 10.5/13. GM Sasikiran has won the title for the fourth time.
The third place went to Lalith Babu who played exciting chess to beat Debashis Das. Babu has won the most number of games in this tournament - nine! However, he lost three games thereby making it to the third place.
Thejkumar MS who finished fourth too had an excellent tournament scoring a GM norm and also increasing his rating by 22 points. He will surely be India's next GM in the days to come. The other two players who finished in the top 6 Were Ashwin Jayaram who played a great game against Vishnu Prasanna and Deepan Chakravarthy who drew with Rathnakaran in just 10 moves.
G Akash won his first game of the tournament in the last round, however, Parimarjan did not turn up to play the last-round game and gave a walkaover to Akshat Khamparia. (Indian Chess News)
Wojtaszek Top Seed in Delhi Invitational Chess Event

GM Anton Korobov being welcomed in New Delhi.
The traditional AICF-AAI Chess Invitational - a Category 18 event - begins in New Delhi, India with six players on Friday. Asian Chess Champion Parimarjan Negi will meet Radoslav Wojtaszek of Poland in the first round. Krishnan Sasikiran is paired with Abhijeet Gupta, and former Russian champion Evgeny Alekseev is paired with current Ukrainian champion Anton Korobov in the first round, according to a press release.
The event is based on the format of double round-robin so that all participants play the others twice over. The time control is Classical with 100 minutes for the first forty moves to be followed by 50 minutes for the next 20 and a 15 minutes sudden death rule to follow thereafter. GM Wojtaszek, World Chess Champion Vishy Anand's second, is the top seed and the favourite in the event with a rating of 2734. Anton Korobov is second seed with a rating of 2702.
Association of Chess Professional Plans Return of Adjournments with Anna Muzychuk and 6 GMs

The Association of Chess Professionals (ACP) is going to try and interesting new idea at a chess tournament in Amsterdam next month. The games will be adjourned after move 40 and resumed the next day! The time control will also be like in the old days: 2.5 hours for the first 40 moves.
The chess tournament named "Golden Classic" will be held July 14-22 July in Amsterdam on the sidelines of the Dutch National Chess Championship and the SPA Chess Open.
The tournament will be a single round robin with seven players: Vassily Ivanchuk (UKR, 2764), Gata Kamsky (USA, 2741), Baadur Jobava (GEO, 2721), Krishnan Sasikiran (IND, 2720), Le Quang Liem (VIE, 2703), Emil Sutovsky (ISR, 2687) and Anna Muzychuk (SLO, 2598).
Tournament director will be Jeroen van den Berg who also runs the Tata Steel tournament in Wijk aan Zee and the Univé Tournament in Hoogeveen each year. The tournament won't be rated. The players will be fighting for an overall prize-fund of US $35,000. The sponsor is private and doesn't want to be mentioned.
Do you know how adjournments work in chess?It's almost two decades since the adjournment rule went out of style and the rulebook. All games at top tournaments were adjourned after the after the time control (after either move 40 or 60). The player whose turn it was to move wrote the move on a piece of paper and the arbiter sealed it in an envelope. The players could then spend the day or a rest day as well analysing the position with their team. The game resumed with the arbiter opening the envelope and playing the move when the chess tournament resumed.

According to an Indian chess news report, Grandmaster Krishnan Sasikiran will head the Indian team in a special match with Israel from April 2 to 4 in New Delhi. The match is being organised as a curtainraiser to the upcoming World Chess Championship to be held in May in Moscow. Besides Sasikiran, GM and current National Champion Abhijeet Gupta, Grandmaster B Adhiban and Grandmaster G N Gopal complete the Indian line up.
The Israeli team includes Grandmaster Illya Smirin, Grandmaster Tal Baron, Grandmaster Vitaly Golod and Gil Popliski. The match will be spread over three rounds and each player will play against all players of the other country at least once. There will be 12 games in all.

World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand beat 2nd seed Shakhriyar Mamedyarov 2-0 in the final of the Corsica Masters knock-out which moves from Bastia to Ajaccio on Monday 31st October. Earlier rounds and the main open all took place in Bastica. Krishnan Sasikiran finished on 7.5/9 half a point clear of Gawain Jones in the open. Here are the top final standings and some videos.
