Chess Games Fest in Greek: First lists announced

We have the latest chess news update via website www.chessdom.com about the Games Festival to be held in Greece this April.



Games Festival, to be held in the 5-star Porto Carras Grand Resort in Halkidiki, Northern Greece from 16 to 22 April, includes the World Amateur Chess Championship, the Alexander the Great Open, and Hebe Open.
Two months before the start of the Festival there are over 200 players registered, setting the competition on pace for a record.
Players in the World Amateur Chess Championship will come from Brazil, Philippines, Norway, Colombia, Spain, Greece, Germany, USA, Finland, Cyprus, Ireland, India, etc.
In the Alexander the Great Open top seeded are GM Athanasios Mastrovasilis and GM Dejan Antic.

Back-to-back double chess tournaments in Crete Island, Greece this July

This is your very chess-y reason to spend July in Greece - on the island of Crete to be specific. For a whole week, the town of Rethymno will host the third edition of their International Chess Tournament 'Rethymno 2011' from July 11 to 18. Parallel to the chess tournament there will be a series of cultural events for everyone to enjoy. All in the beautiful sunshine of the island. But that is not all there is another tournament on the island from July 20. The Municipality of Kandanos - Selino in cooperation with Chess Akademy of Chania will host the fourth edition of the International Chess Tournament Paleohora in Crete. Paleohora is a small city belonging to the Municipality of Kandanos - Selino, located 60 km south - west of the city of Chania. The Chania prefecture is the western of the four prefectures of the island of Crete and one of the most popular touristic destinations in Greece, during the summer.

Greece to host first international chess cultural festival in June

Hi everyone,

Here is a video of the beautiful island of Corfu in Greece.

That's where they are going to hold the 1st International Chess Cultural Festival 18-27th June!

The special festival - planned both for professionals and amateurs - would include matches with substantial prizes, entertainment, cultural events and a high quality vacation experience on the cosmopolitan island of Corfu. The Festival includes 4 different basic types of tournament: rapid chess, pairs, Chinese chess and bridge. Simultaneous and blind exhibition games will also be held, as well as matches between specially invited internationally-ranked players. Lectures followed by discussion, seminars, summer open-air movie nights, a full day tour of the island, concerts, theme nights at the pool and beach bar, special themed dinners, including Chinese, Ancient Greek and Chess, will all make up an exciting and innovative event. The closing ceremony will involve a special chess dress code, and many more wonderful surprises await you!

Special care has been given to parallel events for accompanying persons, including local cuisine and pastry making workshops, dance lessons, bridge lessons and many other activities which promise to make this vacation a rich and unforgettable experience for everyone!
