Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hi everyone,

The Indian subcontinent and some other countries are celebrating a very important festival today - The 'Festival of Lights' or Diwali, or Deepawali. It's a big event in the region

There is a whole night of fireworks, prayers and even gambling to welcome the Goddess of Wealth - it signifies the triumph of good over evil. Diwali is an official holiday in IndiaNepal, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Mauritius, Guyana, Trinidad & Tobago,Suriname, Malaysia, Singapore, and Fiji.

We wish all our friends a happy and prosperous Diwali and what better way to enjoy it than our own 'fireworks' on the chessboard. Enjoy.
