Speed Chess aboard a Train: GM Vlastimil Hort wins Chess Rapid Travelling through Scenic Europe

Grandmaster Vlastimil Hort has won the Chess Train Rapid Chess tournament that is held aboard - yes, you guessed it right, but of course - a train! The tournament featured 87 participants this year and the train route went from Prague through Germany and the Austrian Alps for five days, with 11 rounds of rapid chess. Hort was the top seed.
The event, staged by the Prague Chess Society and Ceské Dráhy, took place from October 11-15 and covered Regensburg (Germany), Innsbruck, Salzburg (Austria), Český Krumlov and back to Prague.
GM Hort received the glass trophy from the managing director of the Research Institute of the Railways Antonin Blazek. You can find a full photo gallery at the Czech chess website here.
The Chess Train will roll again through central Europe! After great success of Chess Train 2011 there is a continuation of this unique project of Prague Chess Society and Czech Railways. Special train for chess players and their friends and relatives will travel via Prague – Dresden – Wroclaw – Piestany – Vienna – Prague on October 12 – 16.
Chessplayers have the opportunity to travel through five beautiful central Europeans cities in the nice train. In the train they will play the 13-round rapid chess tournament and in the afternoons and evenings they can enjoy the atmosphere of the magic town of Tycho de Brahe and Wilhelm Steinitz (Prague), of Florence on Elbe river (Dresden), of Adolf Anderssen chess town (Wroclaw), of small spa town remembering Rubinstein, Bogoljubow and Alekhine (Piestany) and of the metropol of Austro-Hungarian monarchy (Vienna).

Between October 14 and 18 a chess train tournament was held in five different countries. The trip went to five beautiful Central-European cities; the chess was rapid (25 minutes on the clock for each person, no increment). The train left from Prague on Friday, October 14th at 10 am and on the way to Vienna the first 3 rounds of the tournament were played. In the afternoon and evening the players, accompanying persons, organisers and sponsors could enjoy the Austrian capital, and stayed there in a hotel. On Saturday morning the train continued to Budapest, and on Sunday morning everyone travelled further to Bratislava! On Monday the train was headed to Krakow and from there it went back to Prague on Tuesday. Here is a nice video of the event.

This is going to be one charming chess event. A full train of chess players - 64 actually! A tournament, a journey and lots of tourism peppered with some awesome chess. Chessvibes has got a fantastic report with loads of beautiful photos.
The train goes from Prague to Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Krakow and back to Prague - it is arguably the most unique ever, and currently under way. The organiser is from the Czech Republic - Pavel Matocha.

Tomorrow the train is heading to Krakow and from there it goes back to Prague on Tuesday.
The rapid tournament will last fifteen rounds, with four rounds during the last two trips. Exactly 64 players participate, including the legendary Czech grandmaster Vlastimil Hort (who beat yours truly in the fourth round). The top seed, however, is Robert Cvek, who is a member of the Czech Olympiad team. Also five IMs play - the full list can be found here.
