Yes, Indeed! Magnus Carlsen, Chess World No. 1 has beaten the World! Congratulations!

Did you follow the exciting Carlsen versus the World in the RAW Chess Challenge here. Magnus was cool on the live chess video.

GM Hikaru Nakamura was also constantly tweeting through it. And, in fact, by Move 14 he was convinced that Black (the World) position was pretty bad! Hikaru had also tweeted that he was going to follow all Fischer moves... but then, he was soon out of the book.

By the 16th move a critical situation had been reached that was difficult for Black!

Gary Kasparov: World in big trouble and I am disappointed I didn't see a big one to one fight here. I think it's over. I don't like it. It's losing so poorly.

However, Black was not giving up too soon. That is the world was fighting a bit even as Nakamura thought that Carlsen went in for an inaccurate 22.Qd2.

Meanwhile, Kasparov also said: The real challenge of a human playing the computer: a machine does not forgive mistakes.

Gary Kasparov also said: The way machines make decisions and the way humans make decisions is different. There is nothing wrong about it - it's like a sea of time - but this generation looks at the position with the eyes of a computer. There are certain alterations. The way we are projecting our vision of the game of chess (by using computers) is different.

Also, Move 34 end, said Kasparov at Move 28! That's when Carlsen took extra time. Though, soon Kasparov said that it would have been better if Carlsen would have simply gone 28.g4 and won for sure in 10 moves! And, Kasparov sat up in his chair.

Kasparov added: Carlsen made an exciting move instead of the solid one at 28.Nb6 to promote the game!

Actress and RAW Challenge model Liv Tyler also visited the studio for an interview. And, yes, she plays chess. She has a Star Wars and Lord of Rings Chess Set. Jennifer Shahade, who visited the studio, also said, the event was fabulous.

Will Magnus Carlsen beat the World?

RAW Chess Challenge: Magnus is ready, are you?

The World RAW Chess Challenge and your chance to take on the World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen is just a few hours away.

According to a G-Star press release, Magnus is looking forward to the challenge. He says, “I’m very excited about this event. This is something quite new to me and it feels like a huge challenge. The three grandmasters suggesting moves are all very strong. Normally each of them will pick a few inaccurate moves, but in this format I’m sure that the world will make sure only strong moves are selected. If I am able to beat “the World”, it will feel like a big achievement.”

And, the world's highest-ever rated and former world champion Gary Kasparov says, "Having major chess tournaments back in the main cities of the world should be a priority for the World Chess Federation and it’s great to see the RAW World Chess Challenge taking place in the spectacular surroundings of New York City. I know from my own internet match versus a world team in 1999 that the combination of expert advisors and the knowledge of the masses is a hard nut to crack, and the RAW World Chess Challenge’s short time limit will bring extra intensity to the game. As an ambassador of the challenge I will try to stay neutral, but I promise to give a few tips to the world team “live” from the studio on the 10th of September.”

The game will start 12:00 NY time, which is 18:00 CET. Venue is the Penthouse of the Cooper Square Hotel in New York. One hour before the game the four GMs will enter the building and from then you can follow an audio feed of the event. Providing live feedback on the challenge will be GM Maurice Ashley, with additional insight provided by Garry Kasparov.

For Magnus it’s a bit like playing against a computer: he moves on a physical board, and an arbiter will move for the World Team. The three GMs play online and all have their own login, so that there will be no delay and the world will see immediately which moves they suggest. The world decides which move will be played.

Kasparov selects World Chess Challenge Team

Hello Everyone,

We all remember World No. 1 Carlsen becoming a fashion model for G-Star. On September 10, 2010, Carlsen will play against a world team (you can play too!) helped by three top GMs. They were selected by RAW World Chess Challenge ambassador Garry Kasparov and presented in another nice video by G-Star. Here is the video!

Part of the cooperation between G-Star and Magnus Carlsen is the RAW World Chess Challenge. which will be hosted in Cooper Star Hotel in New York City. Everyone in the world is invited to play Magnus Carlsen, the number one chess player in the world, together at once, live on the internet. Three GMs, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave from France, Hikaru Nakamura from the United States and Judit Polgar from Hungary, will suggest moves to the online registered public. The public can vote online for their favourite move to be played against Magnus.

When asked about his thoughts on the RAW World Chess Challenge, Garry Kasparov says: “I am acting as the ambassador of this Challenge, because I am attracted by the unique character of the RAW World Chess Challenge. There isn’t any sport I know of that gives the entire world the opportunity to play the world’s best simultaneously. Magnus is one of the greatest talents ever. This game will be a true challenge for him. Let’s see who wins: he or the World.”
