GM Maxim Turov wins Seville Chess Open 2014

Russian Grandmaster Maxim Turov Emerged clear winner of the 39th Seville Open after defeating the champion last year GM Stewart Haslinger in the last round. Turov Concluded the event with 8.0 / 9 points.

Quinten Ducarmon Dutch IM and IM Armenian Tigran Simonian Achieved a nice result by sharing the second place with experienced GM Carlos Matamoros .

International Open Chess City of Sevilla 2014 Organized by the Federation was Sevillana Chess, With support from Instituto Municipal Sports Hall Sevilla, Tourism and Trade Andalusian and Education Culture and Sports Government of Andalusia.

The tournament was held on 10-18th January at the Hotel Silken Al Andalus Palace in Seville, Spain.

The playing format was 9-round Swiss. 221 players from 18 countries country competed, including seven Grandmasters and International Masters 6. (www.chessdom.com)

Tata Steel Chess 2012 - Congratulations to Levon Aronian for winning Group A

Grandmaster Levon Aronian had his chess flowing - like a river of jewels - to win the Tata Steel Chess Group A this Sunday! Before anything else, here are the videos of the champion. Must watch. Congratulations to GM Levon Aronian for a fantastic tournament. Congratulations to Grandmasters Pentala Harikrishna and Maxim Turov for winning the Groups B and C respectively. 

The 74th Tata Steel Chess Tournament took place from 13 to 29, 2012 in the sports hall Moriaan in Wijk aan Zee. There were three grandmaster tournaments with 14 players each playing 13 rounds at 100 minutes for 40 moves, then 50 minutes for 20 moves and finally 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30 seconds/move increment starting with the first move of the game.

GM Maxim Turov earns ticket to Tata Steel Chess C group 2012

Hi everyone,

GM Maxim Turov is the first player who has qualified for the Tata Steel C group (to take place in January 2012 after winning the BDO Tournament in Haarlem, The Netherlands. According to www.chessvibes.com, the Russian grandmaster shared first place after nine rounds with Dutch GM-elect Robin van Kampen, and won a nerve-wracking Armageddon game to win the tournament.

The 7th BDO Tournament took place August 20-28 in Haarlem, The Netherlands. As in previous years, IM and GM norms were scored in both the Premier and the Challenger Tournament. In the last round IM Ruud Janssen preferred a quick draw against Niclas Huschenbeth over tournament victory, to secure his third and final GM norm. In the Challenger Tournament David Klein did not settle for a draw. By beating Tom Bottema he both earned his first IM norm and an invitation to the Premier Tournament of 2012.With three players sharing first place before the last round, the BDO Chess Tournament saw an unprecedented exciting final round. All three were behind the white pieces as well, so it was obvious that the quick draw Ruud Janssen settled for would not be enough for tournament victory. It was no surprise that Maxim Turov beat Manuel Bosboom in a straightforward manner, but Robin van Kampen had to squeeze water from stone against British GM Stewart Haslinger - and eventually succeeded. In a tense tie-break Turov and Van Kampen both won their game with black, but in the Armageddon game Turov was just a little cooler - or shall we say luckier.
