Friendly Chess Match on Between Ukraine, Poland

Hi everyone,




The friendly chess match between Poland and Ukraine and The 4th International Grandmasters' Tournament - the Lublin Union Memorial - is taking place from May 23 to May 29 in Lublin, Poland. The tournament is played in double Scheveningen format, where each member of one federation plays twice against all members of the other team. One leg will be played with classical time control, the second leg will be in rapid.

Alexei Shirov wins Poland's strongest chess tournament

GM Alexei Shirov
Grandmaster Alexei Shirov has won the 3rd International Grandmasters' Tournament Lublin Union Memorial that took place from May 15-21 in Lublin, Poland. Eight Grandmasters played in the round-robin tournament with the average elo of 2680.


The Lublin Union Memorial events are organized for the purpose of promoting city's candidacy for the status of 2016 European Capital of Culture. GM Boris Grachev was the winner of the first Lublin tournament, while in the second tournament he shared the honours with GM Bartlomiej Macieja and GM Mateusz Bartel.


Final standings:
1. GM Shirov Alexei, Spain 2709 - 5.0
2-3. GM Grachev Boris, Russia 2669 and GM Zhigalko Sergei, Belarus 2679 - 4.5
4-5. GM Roiz Michael, Israel 2660 and GM Sasikiran Krishnan, India 2676 - 4.0
6-8. GM Socko Bartosz, Poland 2654, GM Wojtaszek Radoslaw, Poland 2721 and GM Alekseev Evgeny, Russia 2673 - 2.0

Lublin Chess Memorial: GM Shirov in lead after four rounds

Grandmaster Alexei Shirov is leading at the 3rd Lublin Union Chess Memorial at the half-way mark. The 3rd International Grandmasters' Tournament the Lublin Union Memorial is taking place from May 15-21 in Lublin, Poland. Eight Grandmasters play in the round-robin tournament with the average elo of 2680.

The Lublin Union Memorial events are organised for the purpose of promoting city's candidacy for the status of 2016 European Capital of Culture. GM Boris Grachev was the winner of the first Lublin tournament, while in the second tournament he shared the honours with GM Bartlomiej Macieja and GM Mateusz Bartel. After four rounds of play GM Alexei Shirov is already holding a convincing lead with 3.5 points, a full point ahead of the competition. You can access the official website for more details.
