Alexey Dreev wins Cento Chess Open in Italy

Hi everyone,

Grandmaster Alexey Dreev has won the first Cento Chess Open in Italy on tiebreak edging Grandmaster David Alberto to the second place. Incidentally, GM Alberto had led in much of the tournament and was expected to win. But the top three games finished in draws in the last round and three players shared the first place with 7 points each. So, GM Dreev lived up to his billing as the top seed. GM Roland Salvador won the third place.

Grandmasters Ivan Sokolov and Michele Godena used the advantage of white pieces to win the last round matches and climb to 6.5 points and shared 4th place. Despite Grandmaster Elina Danielian despatching all kinds of opponents with good finesse at the Cento Chess Open, GM Alberto David of Luxembourg held her to a draw in the seventh round to stay in the lead. Some other interesting games included GM Alexey Dreev allowing GM Aleksander Delchev to escape with a draw, GM Igor Naumkin beating IM Kenny Solomon and moving to joint second.

Cento Chess Open R6: Alberto David leads with 5.5

While GM Elina Danielian continues with her nice performance holding on to a draw and staying joint second at the Cento Chess Open after six rounds, GM Alberto David has gone into the lead with 5.5 points. He drew with top seeded GM Alexey Dreev. Meanwhile, in the sixth round, Aleksander Delchev and Elina Danielan also drew their games and stayed on 5 points out of six rounds.

GM Roland Salvador of Philippines is also in the shared second place after beating Guido Caprio. The untitled junior, who already beat three Grandmasters in this event, missed the winning move and gradually slipped into the worse Rook endgame.

IM Kenny Solomon of South Africa stunned the second seeded GM Ivan Sokolov, while his friend IM Simon Ansell held GM Oleg Korneev to a draw. IM Federico Manca claimed another victory against a Grandmaster, this time his victim was Milan Drasko.

Grandmaster Elina Danielian is in a four-way lead at the Cento Chess Open Tournament, after four rounds, along with the talented Guido Caprio, Alexey Dreev and Alberto David. You can read the official website here.

All these four players are leading with a perfect score. Caprio too a full point off GM Manuel Leon Hoyos in a wild game and would take on GM Alberto David in the 5th round. Also, in the fourth round, top seeded GM Alexey Dreev beat GM Oleg Romanishin, GM Elina Danielan beat GM Ivan Sokolov and FM Andrea Cocchi won over GM Michele Godena.
