Hello everyone,
Time for a little chess news update from Beijing. The SportAccord World Mind Games - for which Chess Queen Alexandra Kosteniuk is the official ambassador - saw French Grandmaster Maxime Vachier-Lagrave pick up the gold in the men's blitz event. He scored 12 points in 16 games. Russian Grandmaster Alexander Grischuk picked up the silver with 10.5 points and Azerbaijan Grandmaster Shahriyar Mamedyarov got the bronze. The 4th place went to Russian Sergey Karjakin with 9.5 points. Azerbaijan Vugar Gashimov, Spanish Pons Vallejo and Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk share 5-7 places with 9 points.

Congratulations to the talented Hou Yifan for winning the SportAccord World Mind Games Blitz Event of the Women's Section. She had a fine show picking up the gold with 11.5 points out of 15. Congrats to former women's world chess champion Antoaneta Stefanova for the silver with 9.5 points and Anna Muzychuk from Slovenia picking up the bronze on tiebreak. Nana Dzagnidze from Georgia and Chess Queen Alexandra Kosteniuk from Russia shared the 4th and 5th places with 9 points each.

Great Eye Contact between the Players
Hi everyone!
Our Chess Blog www.chessblog.com is pleased to present one more YouTube chess video for you: the blitz game between Grandmasters Alexandra Kosteniuk and Levon Aronian from the 2009 World Blitz Chess Championship.
I'm sure many of you will appreciate the great eye contact between the two players at the end of the game. We often get comments of people who watch a chess video and then complain that after a game ends (or also at the beginning of the game), the players often do not look at each other during the traditional handshake. This is actually normal, before the game, both players are quite nervous and are already thinking of their upcoming strategy, and at the end, if one of the players lose, he/she is likely to be upset with himself/herself, and may "forget" to look at his opponent during the handshake. It's a credit to Levon Aronian that he gave a very kind handshake with eye contact to Alexandra, after the game ended in her favor. See it for yourself directly in YouTube , in resolutions up to full 1080p.

Full results of the Paris Blitz
Before going to bed, I wanted to share with you the full results just published of today's French Blitz Championship, in which I participated. I did 9.5 out of 13, and shared 5th-8th spot, with a performance of 2598 ELO.
Make sure to have a look at my game of the last round against Anatoly Vaisser (that I posted a couple hours ago, below), it's a typical example of an attack when the Kings have castled on different sides, with a nice ending sacrifice.
