Hi everyone,

The Ortisei Chess Open held from June 1-9 saw top seeds Grandmasters Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu (Romania) and Sergey Volkov (Russia) tie for first with 7,0/9 points. The tournament was held in the quaint town of Ortisei, Val Gardena, South Tyrol, Italy. Five players shared the third place with 6,5 points each, including the talented Canadian juniors Eric Hansen and Aman Hambleton. Rounding up the good performance for team Canada Elias Oussedik won the top U2100 prize.

After the World Chess Championship Match in Merano 1981 between Karpov and Korchnoi this event is the biggest tournament in the history of South Tyrol chess since the Second World War. Full results on the official website.
