Romania Chess Champion Gabriela Olarasu Needs Medical Help

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hi everyone,

WGM Gabriela Olarasu, six-times champion of Romania and individual gold medalist from the 1986 Chess Olympiad, is in need of an urgent medical treatment in a private clinic abroad. In July this year she suffered an acute myocardial infarction, which led to cardiac arrest and a coma that lasted for weeks.

Gabriela woke up, but now she needs to be treated interdisciplinary for her neurological recovery, for the present issues as well as to prevent further complications, and also for her physical rehabilitation. For more information on Gabriela’s condition and how you can help, visit the website set up by her family.

In May 2012 Olarasu shared the 3rd place in the traditional International Women’s Grandmaster Tournament in Belgrade. Her husband Vladislav Nevednichy is the current champion of Romania. (Report: Chessdom)
