Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c0 Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2012

Hello everyone,

For a change, here is a chess news headline that doesn't have the GM or IM title in the final honours. Untitled chess player Yu Ruiyuan notched up a steady performance to win the strong Chennai Chess Open 2012 this Thursday.

In second place were Aleksandrov Aleksej (Belarus), defending champion Kravtsiv Martyn (Ukraine), Akshayraj Kore (India), Marat Dzhumaev (Uzbekistan) and Gomez John Paul (Philippines).

In the final round, Ruiyuan drew with Uzbek Grandmaster Marat Dzhumaev. The champion started with a seeding of 13 and an elo of 2491. The win gets Yu both an IM and GM norm.

Final standings:
1. Yu Ruiyuan (China) 9, 2-5 Aleksandrov Aleksej (Belarus), Akshayraj Kore (India), Gomez John Paul (Philippines), Kravtsiv Martyn (Ukraine), Marat Dzhumaev (Uzbekistan) 8.5, 6-17 Oleksienko Mikhailo (Ukraine), S P Sethuraman, Hoang Thanh Trang (Hungary), V Vishnu Prasanna, Zeng Chongsheng (China), P Karthikeyan, J Deepan Chakkravarthy, T U Navin Kanna, S Nitin, Ankit R Rajpara, Barbosa Oliver (Philippines), R R Laxman 8, 18-20 Ziaur Rahman (Bangladesh), Vaibhav Suri, Ma Qun (China) 7.5 pts
