Hello everyone,

While the chess planet was busy in things more 'sublime', Grandmaster Sergei Zhigalko quietly won the Baku Chess Open 2011 with GM Dmitry Andreikin and GM Emil Sutovsky coming in second and third respectively.

This super chess open with a prize fund over 50 000 euros saw GM Sergei Zhigalko take clear first place with 7,0/9 and won one of the strongest opens for this summer. The 7th seeded Zhigalko started with 5,0/5 and then notched up draws to win the title. The top seeded GM Mamedyarov finished with 6,0/9 at 8th position.
