44th Biel Chess Festival begins July 18

Hi everyone,




The 44th Biel Chess Festival will take place from July 18-29 in - where else - Biel of course - in Switzerland! The main event is the Accentus Grandmaster Tournament which will be a six-player double round robin. Magnus Carlsen (NOR), Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (FRA), Alexei Shirov (ESP), Fabiano Caruana (ITA), Alexander Morozevich (RUS) and Yannick Pelletier (SUI) will participate in the event.


The Master Tournament will be an 11-round open with the prize fund of CHF 43,000. Currently top rated players registered for the event include GM Boris Grachev RUS 2669, GM Ivan Cheparinov BUL 2669, GM Xiangzhi Bu CHN 2662, GM Hua Ni CHN 2661, GM Tigran Gharamian FRA 2661, GM Christian Bauer FRA 2638, GM Maxim Rodhstein ISR 2638, GM Hrvoje Stevic CRO 2623, GM Vladimir Baklan UKR 2618, GM Anton Filippov UZB 2613, GM Romain Edouard FRA 2602, GM Ilya Nyzhnyk UKR 2583, GM Sébastien Mazé FRA 2571 etc.

The Main Tournament will be a 9-round open for the players rated under 2050 FIDE and with the prize fund of CHF 10,600.
