Back-to-back double chess tournaments in Crete Island, Greece this July

Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hello everyone,

This is your very chess-y reason to spend July in Greece - on the island of Crete to be specific. For a whole week, the town of Rethymno will host the third edition of their International Chess Tournament 'Rethymno 2011' from July 11 to 18. Parallel to the chess tournament there will be a series of cultural events for everyone to enjoy. All in the beautiful sunshine of the island. Check out more details at the official web site at www.rethymnochess.gr e-mail info@rethymnochess.gr for more details.

But that is not all there is another tournament on the island from July 20. The Municipality of Kandanos - Selino in cooperation with Chess Akademy of Chania will host the fourth edition of the International Chess Tournament Paleohora in Crete. The official web site of Paleochora tournament (July 20-27) is www.chaniachess.gr and you can e-mail: info@chaniachess.gr for more information.

Paleohora is a small city belonging to the Municipality of Kandanos - Selino, located 60 km south - west of the city of Chania. The Chania prefecture is the western of the four prefectures of the island of Crete and one of the most popular touristic destinations in Greece, during the summer.
