Chess blog for latest chess news and chess trivia (c) Alexandra Kosteniuk, 2011

Hi everyone,

Congratulations to GM Jan Gustafsson

Grandmaster Jan Gustafsson of Germany has won the Thai International Chess Open 2011 beating Paco Vallejo and Nigel Short on tiebreak points.

All the three top seeds had gone into the final round with 6.5/8 points. English GM Nigel Short was the first to win by beating Indian Grandmaster Abhijeet Kunte. But then, so did Jan Gustafsson and Paco Vallejo by beating Kjetil Stokke and Niaz Murshed respectively. This helped third seed Gustafsson to win on tiebreaks. The Bangkok Chess Club and Thailand Chess Association organised this strong event of the region from April 11 to 17 in Pattaya, Thailand.
