Hi Everyone,

Here's more news from the quaintly-named Snowdrops versus Veterans Coal Chess Match being held in Marianske Lazne in Czechoslovakia.

As tradition goes, once a year, a team of female chess players faces a team of chess legends of the 20th century. They are represented by Portisch, Hort, Velimirovic and Uhlman, while the ladies are Humpy, Cmilyte, Caoili and Olsarova. The two teams were tied after two rounds but the Veterans lost the third.

By the way, 'Snowdrops' refers to winter blossom Galanthus that flowers between January and April and heralds the coming of Spring and not snowflakes!

Round 2 results
1. Vlastimil Hort-Koneru Humpy 1/2-1/2
2. Wolfgang Uhlmann-Arianne Caoili 1-0
3.
Dragoljub Velimirovic-
Tereza Olsarova 1-0
4. Lajos Portisch-Viktorija Cmilyte 1/2-1/2

Round 3 results
1. Humpy Koneru-Lajos Portisch 1-0
2. Arianne Caoili-Dragoljub Velimirovic 1-0
3. Tereza Olsarova-Wolfgang Uhlmann 1-0
4. Viktorija Cmilyte-Vlastimil Hort 1/2-1/2

Great. It's always nice to know when girls are winning. They're the best.

Yes, do you know the high level of chess currently being played at the Russian Women's Superfinal. It's as good as any men's tournament. You can follow it live at www.russiachess.org.

Basically there should be no women's tournaments then we will have more top rated women. It's just that we have a separate women's section that is why there are so few top rated chess players who are women.

Women are as good as men at chess but their number is less so people think men are better at chess.

I agree look at the Chess Queen, she beat even Carlsen and Vishy Anand in blitz. So guess women cannot be underestimated at chess at all.

Whenever I read a post about women chess players here there are always lots of comments but no one comments on posts about men chess players unless it's a really big tournament or event. How come?

@Jose Because women play more beautiful chess!

@Saira You mean women are more good to look at? Right!

Statistically speaking if all women chess players were only playing against men and there were no only-women tournaments then the average rating of all women chess players would go up.

The thing with women - not just in chess - is that they have to play multi roles. A guy can just focus on his profession and forget about the laundry. So few women have the opportunity to excel at chess unless supported by their husband, family etc. That is all. Otherwise we would have same number of women chess players in the top as men. No big deal.

Hi Guys, three cheers for women chess players. Men are basically mean when it comes to losing to women. That is why they don't want to allow women to excel at chess. I play online a lot and most men disconnect when losing. Women - overall - bring an etiquette, an aesthetics and creativity to chess that men never can - like in all professions. Period. Now go play.

Why don't we have a Snowdrops vs Snowflakes chess where its the young girls versus the young boys. That would be cool.

@Anonymous are you talking of a chess match or a dating match? Very funny. Snowdrops is referring to a flower. Read the post.

This is what would happen in a World Championship Match between a women's and men's team. Why don't we have such a team event by Fide then Women would show the men how chess is played! Yaya.

Hey I have an idea - Let's take the top 10 men and top 10 women in the chess world. Now compare who are smarter - definitely the women. Overall their personalities are more rounded and better. Men have tunnel vision. Only chess. Though recently Carlsen changed that a bit with his G-Star campaign. Overall it's women who have done more for chess than men.

This is ridiculous. Is there no one out here to speak for men. Women play dumb chess. Look at their ratings. I cannot believe this stuff written here in the comments.

The admin should step in and stop this silly discussion. There is no doubt that men have been the best in chess and will remain so. There will never be a woman as the World Champion ever.

@Sebastian How can you say women play dumb chess look at all the top players... How silly a comment.

@Anonymous Well ok there are some exceptions like Chess Queen, Koneru Humpy, Judit Pogar, Natalija Pogonina, Kosintseva sisters etc but I meant overall as an average women play dumb chess.
